Community High School’s annual junior and senior prom, The Yule Ball, will be held at the Eastern Michigan University Student Center. The prom will be on May 13, 2011, but ticket sales are already underway. Tickets are available in the main office the week of May 9th for $35.00, but become $40.00 at the door.

Although originally prom was Yule Ball “themed,” it is now just Yule Ball “titled.” Due to concern expressed by students, there will be little to no Harry Potter relation to this year’s prom. Instead, it will be focused on tons of “little white lights,” said Chris Hicks.

As prom rapidly approaches, it is time to figure out what to wear. Chris Hicks describes the style of typical dress as “Sunday best” with “no tennis shoes.” This year 147 tickets have already been sold, a number which has most likely offset the price of the prom itself, but has not yet reached the average 200 tickets which Hicks said she sells each year. Even if you are a bad dancer, or just don’t like to dance, don’t count out prom just yet. This year, like most, there will be tables set up with beverages, cookies and plenty of other snacks. Back by popular demand are the ShutterBooth and CHS’s own Rocky Gonet, as well as DJ Fast Eddie.

As prom approaches, here are a few important things to remember:

  • Ninth and tenth graders who had upperclassmen purchase tickets for them must have those upperclassmen with them at the door in order to get in.
  • If you are bringing a guest who does not attend CHS, they must have their ID scanned in the main office.
  • The key-chain ticket you purchased is not necessary to get into the prom. If you are a CHS student, your name will be on the list.
  • Guests who do not attend CHS will not be allowed entrance without proper identification.
  • Guest forms need to be filled out, signed by the guest’s school administrator and returned before you can purchase a ticket for the person.
  • And finally, once you leave the venue, you will not be permitted to re-enter.
