Dance Body seniors take the stage for the last time in their "Senior Dance".

Forsythe Middle School’s auditorium filled quickly on Friday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m. Gathering there were the friends, families and classmates of Community High School’s Dance Body Company, ready and waiting to watch their loved ones in the 31st Annual Spring Dance Body Concert. Throughout the night, the show featured 17 student choreographed pieces.

The black curtain parted at 7:15 to start the show, revealing 27 CHS dancers, the entire Dance Body company, in their opening number, “A Subtle Zombie Apocalypse,” choreographed by senior, Marissa Solomon. The bar was set high from the very beginning of the showcase, only to continue to exceed expectations.

Following “A Subtle Zombie Apocalypse,” was one of two boys participating in the showcase; Sander Bregman. Bregman previously busted a move with “Mystical Methods,” an all male break-dancing crew, in Pioneer High School’s district wide talent show, Future Stars, later to tie for the win with singer, Lauren Victor. But on Friday night, Bregman was going solo, break-dancing to artist Rufus Thomas, in a performance titled “B-boy Cast.”

However, dancing was not the only focus throughout the evening. Four interludes were staged featuring many different acts ranging from singing acoustic duets to reading poetry. The first interlude showcased “Me and Ryan,” exhibiting the musical stylings of Jake Cinti and Ryan Shea, both students at CHS. In complete contrast, Skyline student Oren Bregman performed two of his own raps, while in the second half of the performance Anna Ziff read two poems she wrote. Lastly, Kerry Fingerle and Rennie Cotner sang Ingrid Michaelson’s “You and I,” accompanied by Cotner on the ukulele.

The artistic dancing displays continued to impress as the performance progressed. Smiles lit the faces of many audience members as “Hedwig’s Theme” from the popular Harry Potter movie series began to play, followed by the dancers entering in costumes depicting many of the different characters that appear throughout the different stories.

Among the most memorable dances of the night was “The Senior Dance”, choreographed collectively by the Dance Body seniors, taking the stage for the last time. “The Senior Dance” closed the show, ending the night of talented students and beautiful dancers.
