On March 30th, Wale came to a packed Power Center in downtown Ann Arbor. Big Sean, a new artist who is sure to blow up any day now, and Clipse, a more widely known duo, opened the show.

Big Sean, who was raised in Detroit, took the stage first performing songs like “Hollywood,” “Million Dollars,” and “Getcha Some.” In seconds the crowd was on their feet. Big Sean has recored three mixtapes, including the most recent “UKNOWBIGSEAN.” His much anticipated first album “Finally Famous”, is scheduled for release later this year. Clipse took the stage next, performing some of their hits including “I’m Good” and “Popular Demand.” Brothers Malice (Gene Thornton) and Pusha T (Terrance Thornton), formed Clipse in 1992 and since then have made a variety of albums and mixtapes. They have also produced their own apparel brand Play Cloths.

By the end of the opening acts, it was clear that the crowd was getting anxious. After what could have been a whole show itself, there was a quick pause that allowed the audience to take a break and refresh before main performance. When Wale took the stage, the well rested audience and bone-shaking bass from the speakers shook the theater. The set started off with songs like “Nike Boots” and “W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.” and the crowd recited every lyric as if they had written the songs themselves. The set also included songs off of Wale’s first album “Attention Deficit” such as “Pretty Girls,” “Chillin,” “90210,” and “TV In the Radio.” This star on the rise, who was born in Washington DC, has collaborated with many big time artists including Gucci Mane, Lady GaGa, Pharrell, and Jazmine Sullivan. Wale is currently on a co-headlining tour with rapper K’naan across the east cost.
