Prom season is in full swing at Community, and students on the Prom Planning Committee are working hard to bring their “Cosmic Fever” vision to life. With a space disco theme, this year’s event promises a mix of classy vibes and retro fun, with every detail planned out for this special night.
The group has been planning out colors and big-picture ideas for the past couple of weeks. Most recently they’ve been divided into subcommittees: table decoration, front entrance backdrop and dance floor look.
Jacqueline Boynton, a CHS senior, is part of the front entrance backdrop group. The main focus of her group is to be wowed as you enter the country club, followed by getting your picture taken in front of it. The backdrop is an important part of the overall prom energy since many pictures will be posted on social media and put into this year’s yearbook.
“We’re going for a purple, silver, classy kind of vibe,” Boynton said. “We don’t want it to be chewy or ugly.”
Besides the backdrop group, the others work on door decorations and incorporate the space and disco aspects of the theme within the dance.
Sylvie Bleckman, another member of prom planning and a CHS junior, is in charge of table decor. Silver stars sprinkled around the tables along with mini-planets is her vision. While tablecloth choices and colors are somewhat limited, her team is making the most of their creative freedom to add as much space disco fun as possible.
Along with all of the decorations, invitations are a key promotion factor to get the upperclassmen excited. This year, students will receive small keepsake keychains. Each one will have purple stars against a silver background. The design includes the event’s details and a welcoming message: “Community High School Prom Cosmic Fever.”
CHS junior Sophia Alcumbrack McDaniel has been working with the committee planning the food and drinks for prom. They’ve been trying to continue the theme of space disco into the food and drinks by having lemonade with edible glitter as a drink and making disco snack mixes for the event.
“I think it’s gonna be a super fun night, and I’m super excited to see how it all comes together,” Alcubrack McDaniel said, “Especially knowing that I’ve seen the works of it and I know what’s going on behind the scenes.”
The dance will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Washtenaw Golf Club. You can buy tickets in the main office starting April 7, 2025 through April 25, 2025 for $40.
