On May 14, during lunch, CHS’s HOSA chapter hosted an ice cream social event on the third floor to help raise money for their club’s expenses. This event was filled with homemade cookies, large scoops of ice cream and plenty of student support – all with the goal of reaching HOSA’s $2,000 fundraising goal before competitions next year.
The proceeds will help cover costs such as competition fees and membership fees, making it easier for all students to participate in HOSA’s nationally recognized program, regardless of financial barriers.
“We want to help kids who are not able to pay for their membership fees so they can compete without the burden of worrying about money,” said freshman and HOSA Co-president Annette Dobson. “Our fundraising goal is kind of high—it’s at $2,000—and we hope to reach that by the start of next school year, before competition season begins.”
While the focus was on fundraising, attendees were most excited about the treats. Co-president Andrea Skerlos took the time to bake allergy-friendly cookies to make the event more inclusive.
Students enjoyed a variety of sweets, with caramel cookies and cookies-and-cream ice cream proving to be crowd favorites.
“I got a broken cookie with ice cream,” freshman Lacey Nelson said. “It’s so good, and I did it to help fund medical stuff and HOSA in general.”
Though Dobson noted that the logistics of setup and takedown were challenging for a short event, she still felt the fundraiser was a success.
“I think it was fun, but a lot of work for just 30 minutes,” Dobson said. “I feel like we raised a really good amount, and I feel pretty accomplished.”
Approximately 40 people attended the fundraiser, helping HOSA move one step closer to its financial goal and building momentum for a strong year ahead.
