On Wednesday, May 21, journalists and families of Community High gathered in the Craft Theatre for a final farewell to the 2024-2025 PubHub season. As an annual tradition, this banquet celebrates 9 months of student work and serves as a sendoff for the seniors who graduate the following week.
CHS’s one and only Journalism teacher Tracy Anderson knows the ins and outs of this event after hosting similar ones in the past. Still, as another year comes to a close, she finds it difficult to part with the eldest class of journalists.
“It’s, of course, very natural for seniors to leave high school,” Anderson said. “But it’s important to center just how much of an impact that they’ve had on all of our lives.”
To commemorate these beloved students, journalists submitted pictures from throughout the year, which were compiled into a slideshow and screened to the theatre. Rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders got the opportunity to introduce the seniors, who then stepped up to give a short speech. These addresses ranged from humorous and lighthearted, to tear-jerking, but they all shared one common quality: a last chance to sum up the student’s time on staff.
Clara Freeth, one of the five Print Editors in Chiefs who just completed her 6th semester as a Community High School journalist, used her time at the podium to read a letter to her younger self.
“I didn’t know how special it was going to be until it was happening,” Freeth said. “I feel so loved. Not very many high schoolers have a class that is as important to them as Journalism, or a room that’s been as impactful as room 300.”
