Farmer’s Market:
One of the most classic ways to spend time in Kerrytown is to visit the Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Although there is a separate Sunday craft market, you can find an abundance of knick-knacks and fun items on both Wednesday and Saturday. Whether it be escaping the summer heat with an ice cone, buying fresh ingredients, grabbing a quick treat or watching the bustle of the crowd, you can’t go wrong here.
Silver Lake:
Spending a day at the lake is the best way to cool down on a hot Sept. day. Located in Pinkney, just a 30-minute drive from CHS, Silver Lake State Park is an ideal spot for swimming or simply relaxing. In addition to the beach, the park features hiking trails, tables, and grills. No matter if you’re a hiker, swimmer, picnicker or nature lover, you can definitely have the ultimate lake day.
Nichols Arboretum:
Completely free of charge and open to everyone, Nichols Arboretum, or “The Arb,” is a beautiful, 123-acre conservatory that spans across part of Ann Arbor’s mid-east side. Open from sunrise to sunset, The Arb features valleys, trails, gardens and a prairie; not to mention the Huron River, which cuts through the northernmost part of the area. Bring a blanket and a basket, because this is the best spot for a picnic.
Washtenaw Dairy:
You haven’t experienced Ann Arbor if you haven’t tried a delish treat at Washtenaw Dairy. Known for their massive scoops of ice cream and decadent cake donuts, it’s a great place to get a sweet treat. The interior of the shop is filled with retro booths and posters; the outside has many picnic benches, fountains, and ambient lighting. Overall, it creates an intriguing 1950s milkshake bar vibe. Washtenaw Dairy is also a short walk away from Wurster and Allmendinger Park, which are both great places to pair with a late-night ice cream run and a stroll.
Nickel’s Arcade:
Directly across from the Diag, Nickel’s Arcade is a beautiful, covered shopping corridor that hosts a variety of stores, including retail, antiques, cafes and even gourmet bonbons. Right down the block, boasts many of Ann Arbor’s cheaper dining favorites, including NYPD and Slurping Turtle. If you sit down for a moment or simply walk through the Arcade, its natural sunlight and airy vibe give off the perfect summer vibe.
