Fall in Ann Arbor and nearby areas is packed with events that let you celebrate the season with family and friends. However, it can be difficult to find events geared towards teens. Here are a few ideas to brighten up your fall.
Artoberfest – This free event is perfect for anyone looking to support local artists and musicians. The Guild of Artists & Artisans will host A2 Artoberfest on Oct. 11-12, stretching across Ann Street and North Fourth Avenue near Kerrytown. The festival features 90 jury-selected artists, live music, food vendors and local beverages.
Wiard’s Orchards – I personally love getting lost in the corn maze and their cinnamon donuts. Wiard’s is hands-down the best fall outing for families. From Wednesday to Sunday, the orchard opens its corn maze, Old West Wagon rides, petting farm, playgrounds, mini golf, Corn Crib, pumpkin patch and mindshaft. Additional attractions, such as the giant slide, fire engine rides, karaoke and more, are available on weekends.
Night Terrors Haunted Thrill Park – If you’re looking for a scare, Night Terrors is the place to go. Even if you’re usually too scared of haunted houses, this one is so well-designed that it’s worth braving the fear. Also at Wiard’s Orchards, Night Terrors Haunted Thrill Park returns from Sept. 26 through Nov. 2 and is open Friday through Sunday throughout the season. There are five attractions: The Haunted Barn, Alien Caged Clowns In 3D, The Mindshaft, The Asylum and the Hayride Of The Lost.
Ann Arbor District Library Fall Events – The Ann Arbor District Library offers many free fall crafting events. On Oct. 2 at the Downtown Library, participants can learn about the basics of woodworking by carving and painting a small pumpkin, and shortly after at the Traverwood Branch on Oct. 7, participants can make skeleton keychains out of pony beads. If you are interested in learning punk embroidery, the Mallets Creek Branch will be hosting a workshop on Oct. 14, where attendees can stitch spooky designs onto a patch or shirt. At the end of the month, the Pittsfield Branch will be sewing felt pumpkins on Oct. 19.
State Theater – The historic downtown venue has a mix of live music, film screenings and special events throughout the fall. If you love horror movies, missing a screening here is a mistake. It’s also conveniently close to CHS, so students can walk over to catch a screening after school or during a free block.
Whether you are interested in local art, haunted houses or making something crafty, remember to enjoy the season. Even if you can’t attend everything, just exploring a few activities may make your fall memorable. The fall season only comes around once a year, so remember to make the most of it.
