There was a brisk breeze in the afternoon of Sept. 18, 2025 and forums gathered on the back lawn of CHS to compete for the annual Fall Field Day. Every year, CHS forums compete against each other with a series of games including relay races, potato sack racing, wheelbarrow races, building Lego towers and more.
Mary Cate Baker, a junior at CHS, is a member of Robert Lavelanet’s forum. Baker said she enjoyed field day this year and felt that it brought her closer with her forum by talking to the freshmen, sharing pizza and lemonade together and working together while they played the games. Although Baker didn’t win anything, she still enjoyed spending time with her friends in her forum.
“I think they’ve added some new games, which makes it more fun,” Baker said. “Freshman year it wasn’t on the back [lawn]. It was at a park, so it was more like spring field day.”
Caleb Mothersell, a senior at CHS, thinks field day went well for his forum. Mothersell thinks that spring field day has more hype than fall, but it’s a good way for people in his forum to get integrated into the forum before Forum day.
“I think for a lot of people, Forum day can be kind of daunting, especially if they’re doing overnight stuff,” Mothersell said. “But I think it [field day] went well, at least for my forum.”
For Mothersell, he thinks the school as one body has a competitive spirit and thinks that competitiveness really showed with field day. Mothersell is in Liz Stern’s forum at CHS and believes that field day helped the new freshmen open up and become closer as a forum.
“I think field day is a good starter for freshmen,” Mothersell said. “I think that’s what it serves.”
Lola Yribar, a junior at CHS, explained that even though her forum didn’t do the best, her whole forum still had a lot of fun. Yribar, who is in Chloe Root’s forum, competed on the afternoon of Sept. 23, 2025 on the back lawn.
“It started raining at the very end, so we couldn’t finish the last activity,” Yribar said. “But overall it was really fun.”
Yribar said she thinks it really brought her forum together, because people were partnering up for activities and working together to win.
“It felt a lot like a good group. I think it’ll be really nice to have done that before forum day,” Yribar said. “We’ll connect even more having done this already, and I already feel like we’re a stronger group.”
Although some forums did better than others, it brought forums closer together than before forum day. Field day is an annual event, and CHS as a whole comes closer together while competing.
