You can’t pay main street rent with Greeting cards. Lisa Roberts, owner of Rock Paper Scissors, learned this quickly after leaving her corporate job with an idea. An idea that would get her out of her boring nine to five job. Her idea was a store full of greeting cards
She had been writing her business plan even while in conference calls. Yet, when she opened her first store in Dempsey Michigan, she learned quickly that selling greeting cards won’t bring in the money needed.
“It is a totally different business than it was 13 years ago,” Roberts said. “We are super into pop culture and so over the years we have just kind of leaned into the things that we like”.
Rock Paper Scissors is now filled with Taylor Swift Merchandise Gilmore Girls items, and even a newT-Shirt Press Bar.
“You can make your own T-Shirt,” Roberts said. “You can pick your color and pick your print and we press it for you”.
Rock Paper scissor started with a love for greeting cards and a Dream to escape her corporate job, however Roberts hard work has turned it into a store with not only cards, self expressing small business.
What started as a simple love for paper and a dream to escape the corporate grind has transformed into a vibrant, ever-evolving business that’s as much about self-expression as it is about stationery. “I started with a dream, a dream and a pen.”
