The weekend of May 20th, 2011 was an important time for Community High School students. After weeks of planning, students, teachers and chaperones went on their Spring Forum Trips. All enjoyed participating in an experience so uniquely practiced by Community High. Forum trips were filled with laughter, good food, games, adventures, and bonding.
Some forums spent their time away from Ann Arbor. The Strassel Forum went camping in Lake Side, Ohio. “I rented a golf cart,” said sophomore and Strassel forum member, Jeremy Simon, “It was the best day of my life.”
The Stapleton forum visited Old Man’s Cave in Hocking Hills State Park. Cal Kirchen, sophomore at CHS and Stapleton forum member, explained why he felt forum day is needed. “I loved forum day. You get in such a repetitive process with school, and it’s a great thing when we can slow things down and do something new.” Kirchen said that it was Hocking Hills was beautiful, and recommends anybody to go.
Other forums spent time on day trips in Ann Arbor, such as canoeing and picnicking, or playing a few rounds of laser tag at Zap Zone before visiting Washtenaw Dairy.
For the Community class of 2011, Spring Forum day was both a happy and a sad experience. Seniors went on trips with their forums for the last time. Sierra Koepele, Community High School senior and member of the Kulka forum, talked about her last forum day. “It’s bittersweet, in a way, ‘cause its been four years now, and it’s my last forum day,” Koepele explained.
All in all, Forum Day was exactly what it was expected to be: a fun, enjoyable time of forum bonding.
