Seven Kens, four unicorns, one Judith and Samuel L. Jackson all packed in Craft Theater. Sounds like a dream? You bet! It’s the Kulka Forum Halloween Costume Contest! Students and staff headed to the Craft Theater Friday October 30th to witness this annual tradition and this year, the costumes did not disappoint.
Everyone got creative with their costumes this year. Aidan Mase-Kemnitz showed up as Mr. Potato Head and Nora Sullivan transformed herself into Duff Goldman of Charm City Cakes. There was a President Barack Obama with former President “W”, as well as a spelling bee, a deviled egg, a bag monster and a survivor of a nuclear apocalypse.
However this wouldn’t be a contest without a little competition. There were nine categories, including most colorful, most creative, most realistic look-a-like, funniest, scariest, best duo, best group, best forum and best overall. The winners were chosen by representatives of the Kulka forum and received candy for their win.
The winner for most creative was Nate Coryell for his rendition of “The Invisible Man.” Former Dean of Community Peter Ways won the most colorful category for his Ryan Evans costume from High School Musical. The funniest costume went to Ken McGraw, who dressed as Judith DeWoskin. Art teacher Steve Coron dressed as Barnaby Root and won the scariest category. Samuel L. Jackson was voted most realistic, and Ken and Judith won best duo dressed as Judith and Ken respectively. Best group went to the unicorns by default. Best forum went to the Kulka forum, who were spearheaded by the Invisible Man and Samuel L. Jackson, and last but not least, best overall costume came down to three costumes: Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes, Captain Hammer, and Samuel L. Jackson. The judges couldn’t decide and left it to the crowd to choose the winner. After a deafening cheer off, it was clear that Captain Hammer was to win best overall costume.
This year’s costumes were unique, creative and hilarious. Thank you to the Kulka forum for putting together this fun, festive contest and most importantly, thank you to all those who participated. Can’t wait to see you all again next year!
