Wasem Farms

“Jam, donuts, apples, pears, plums, cherries, gooseberries, currants, peaches, winterberries, curly willow, pussy willow,” said Wasem, owner of Wasem farms. They bring all of these and more Wasem Fruit Farm brings to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market.

Over the past sixty years, business has started to change.

Most of the time, money is already harder to make if you live and work on a farm, especially if the farm is your only income. What if your income was deprived even more? Well, this is what has been happening to many farmers that sell at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market.

“You can’t make a living just coming to the farmers market because business has been way down.” she said, “It’s changed considerably with the other farmers market and the lack of advertising… there’s a lot more vendors than there used to be, people only have so much money to spend.” Growing, making and selling products at the farmers market has become more popular.

Farmers Markets have become more popular in many cities. This is good for the community, but has had a bad impact on the farmers. The Wasem’s have experienced this first hand, but still come back everyday the market is open.
