Skyline Women’s Field Hockey gets ready to scream their cheer.

Skyline women’s field hockey claimed the Division Two State Champion title on November 2nd. Next fall sports season, Skyline field hockey will be playing in Division One, against their hometown rivals, Pioneer and Huron. This will present new opportunities for the ladies who fought all season to earn their team a spot in the Division one competition.

“It has always been my dream to play in college and winning states is giving me more of a drive and opportunity to play in college,” Emily Hussey said. Hussey is a “center forward.” “She has been playing this position since middle school.” Being on a team is more than just winning games together. A team has to stick together through everything; they have to want the best for each other; they each have to put in the same amount of work to get the result they want. That is what the field hockey team did. “The week of finals we practiced extremely hard and you could definitely notice the drive from each and every player. I knew everyone wanted the same thing,” Hussey said about what they accomplished.

Each girl on the team has different plans for the future, but many of their plans include continuing to do the sport that they love in college. Kayla Harding is a co-captain along side  Josephine Hamilton and Cayla Smigielski. “I’ve always been determined to play in college. I think that winning states was more a team thing,” Harding said “It helped me become a better player and help others to become better players. Skyline Field Hockey is ready to bring it and I’m proud to say I’m part of it.”Going into the game, Harding knew what she had to do, but more importantly she knew what her team had to do.

Not only did the girls on the Skyline Field Hockey team win a state title, but they also learned the importance of team bonding, what it means to work together, and that the support of others will push you to success more than you ever expected. “As a whole team we got much closer than we were last year. We bonded right from the start of the season. I never realized how much a difference that could make,” Said Sylvie Isaac about her teammates. Hamilton one of the 3 captains,  scored the winning goal in their championship game. Not only did she become a better player throughout the season, but she “learned how to be a leader and a friend- two skills that I will always use.”

Field hockey is a team sport. The reason that Skyline Field Hockey made it was more than just their hard work and perseverance. Each and every one of them learned skills that they can use on and off the field.
