Though the Beatles dominated most of the 60’s and early 70’s in the alternative rock genre, they weren’t the only kids making music at the time. Rodriguez, a singer/songwriter from Detroit, flew under the radar for his entire recording career (two albums) in the U.S. However, he gained a loyal following in Australia and sold more records than Elvis Presley in South Africa. ELVIS. PRESLEY. Though his talent was on display in the documentary “Searching for Sugar Man,” he has gone largely under-appreciated in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. It’s time the Motor City music man received an honor as prestigious as Song of the Day.
