Teachers Get “Pied”
OCT. 6 – On a 79-degree fall day, around 100 students gathered on the back lawn of Community High to witness three teachers get pied in the face. The Strassel Forum organized this event to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Students from the Strassel Forum went around to all forums in the weeks prior to Oct. 6 with colored plastic jars with faces of the seven teachers taped to them. Community High students were asked to place spare change in the jar of the teacher they wanted to see get pied. Their options were Judith DeWoskin, Courtney Kiley, Dean Marci Tuzinsky, Kevin Davis, Steve Coron, Robert Morgan and Ken McGraw.
The third place teacher, McGraw got one pie to the face. He had an outstanding $76.15 in his jar. When announced that McGraw was in third place, a huge roar of excitement was emitted from the crowd. Chelsea Winkler grabbed an aluminum pie tin full of whipped cream from Quinn Strassel’s hand and hit McGraw in the face. The crowd was full of laughter and excitement.
The next contender to be pied was Davis who came in second place with $111.12. Nicole Coveyou and Fiona Lynch took two pie tins full of nothing but whipped cream and hit each side of Davis’s head. He wiped away the whipped cream almost immediately after, even though most of it ended up dripping on his shirt.
In first place by a landslide, was Morgan with an astounding $193.24 would take three pies to the face. The crowd of Community High teachers and students anxiously awaited Morgan’s reaction as Strassel filled the pie tins. When Morgan took off his glasses and Hannah Rubenstein, Megan Syer and Melissa Cox got ready to put the whipped cream in his face, the crowd got more and more eager. The three Strassel Forum students went one by one in a quick pattern to Morgan’s face.
“Kids wanted to see my beard full of pie,” Morgan said.
