Supreme Week 1 Drop Review

In its first week of the spring-summer season, Supreme released a massive collection that lived up to the steep standard the brand is upheld to. The collection included graphic tees, pants, sweatpants, flannels and button-ups alike. To me, the collection of clothing was somewhat mediocre in the sense that I had seen it all before. We’ve seen the graphic tees, the flannels, the button ups and the sweatpants. We’ve seen plenty of ‘S’ caps that have merely been color swapped and re-released over and over, season after season. Where the drop stands out to me, as their collections so often do, was in the accessories. As the popularity of the man-purse has skyrocketed in the past months, the brand released their take on the trend. It’s tasteful, but expected. What was unexpected, however, was the Metrocard, scotch glasses and incredibly odd key knife. I mean, a key? That has a knife in it? I wish I didn’t think that was so cool. It is apparent that the brand has realized that anything with their iconic logo stamped on top will be eaten up by kids across the world. This is somewhat of an abuse of the control they possess on youth culture. Even a toolbox with the word Supreme has this appeal that I can’t explain. Hopefully, this upcoming weeks release of clothing will allow the brand to recuperate and re-establish their position as the king of clothing.
