Power

An oldie but a goodie, “Power” by Kanye West is the song that can hype you up for anything. This song will get you ready for whatever you might have to face. The vocals in the background that make up the introduction get me ready to run through a wall the minute this song plays, and the consistent, urgent tempo throughout the song keeps me in that mindset.

“Power” comes off of Kanye’s 2010 album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” and despite its age, I still can’t stop listening to it. Kanye sampled King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man” to get a blend of alternative and rap that makes the song unique, illustrating Kanye’s unordinary style.

This song even has a line that makes me laugh. Kanye opens up his third verse with, “F*** SNL and the whole cast, tell ‘em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole a**.” I just find it hilarious that this is his response to the “Saturday Night Live” cast making fun of him going on stage when Taylor Swift won a VMA in 2009. He took the microphone from Taylor Swift while she was giving her acceptance speech, and told the audience that Beyoncé should have won the award. I think that is a perfect example of his personality that makes him the character that he is.

I hope that this song will hype you up for whatever you’re doing in life!

Josh.
