Humans of Ann Arbor
“Scuba diving is what made me first get into marine biology. I went scuba diving for the first time in Lake Michigan. First, we had to put tons of gear on. We had to waddle across the road, go down some steps, and then walk into the lake. It was really cold, but my first breath underwater was really surreal. You don’t know what’s going on, you’re like ‘I’m breathing underwater!’ It’s just really amazing. One time we did a shark dive, and they had three tuna heads that they put in this cage, and then they opened the cage, and there were suddenly forty sharks. But I feel kind of invincible when I have a wet suit on.”
