‘Captain Marvel’ first trailer: introducing Brie Larson as Carol Danvers
Fans get first look at what’s coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I keep having these memories,” Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) said in the first trailer of the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Captain Marvel. “I see flashes. I think I had a life here. But I can’t tell if it’s real.”
The film tells the origin story of Danvers’ alter ego and movie’s namesake Captain Marvel. It cuts to the chase, setting the time period during the first scene of the trailer with Danvers falling from the sky, and crashing into a Blockbuster — the popular 90s video rental franchise.
The trailer is voiced over by Samuel L Jackson in the character of Nick Fury. Fans get a peek of young Nick Fury, sans eyepatch, midway through the trailer, establishing a connection between Fury and Danvers in the early days of the MCU.
The trailer sets promising expectations that Captain Marvel will be a household female role model for girls and women of all ages, showing a montage of Danvers falling while doing various activities. A little later, the audience is shown a similar montage of her getting up from her falls, creating an inspirational message. This will be the MCU’s first standalone movie with a female lead.
At the end of the trailer, we see Danvers sporting her classic Red, Blue, and Gold suit that fans will recognize from the comics.
