For the past 14 years, dancing has been an escape for Lulu Bogun, a junior at Community. Since she was two years old, Bogun has been working nonstop to improve her dancing. After all the hard work, she has finally reached the highest level at her studio.

“I am really happy with where dance is going and my level of achievement,” Bogun said. “I’m in the sixth year, and I feel really challenged, but not in a bad way.”

Being the highest level at her studio is a big achievement for Bogun.

“It feels good; it’s a good achievement,” Bogun said. “I feel like a lot of it is based on age but it means a lot to me. Since I’ve been dancing there so long, the people at dance are kind of like my second family.”

Bogun practices a variety of dance including point, ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, musical theater and modern dance. For Bogun, dance has always been a way to lift her spirit.

“Dance has always been an escape,” Bogun said. “If I am stressed out about something I dance, while I am dancing I don’t have to think about it anymore.”

Dance has not only been a big part of Bogun’s life, but also her brother’s. Dance has been a huge part of her and her brother’s relationship, as something they have always had in common. Two years ago, Bogun and her brother Max performed a duet: their last one before he left for college.

“It just really meant a lot to me, because we grew up and we ended up being really really good friends even though we used to fight,” Bogun said. “It was just really special since it was his senior year and he was leaving.”
