As we transition into springtime, I find myself more and more drawn to a very specific type of music. It has a lot of low-key guitar and ukulele with fairly minimal production and light beats. Still, almost all of the songs have less cheerful lyrical subjects than their instrumentation would suggest, giving them a really interesting depth. Songs like “recently,” by Liana Flores and “Kingston” by Faye Webster have more upbeat, upturned sounds, whereas songs like “Cut Your Bangs” by Girlpool and “Largo” by Fiona Apple are much more melancholic and demure.
