Amy McLoughlin

Amy McLoughlin describes how she became a counselor.

“I became a counselor because I like working with young people and as a teacher I was more concerned that I wasn’t able to reach them with the issues that they had as a teacher. I went back to school to get more information about mental health and that line instead of just teaching a subject. [I decided previously when] I was working at the Boys and Girls Club in Ohio. And most of the students there were presenting with some type of hardship and I just wanted to be able to help them.  I think I am very good at helping students see the bigger picture that school isn’t necessarily the most important thing in their world. Then I’m able to see just who they are as a person rather than what they do at school.”
