“I really love animals. I currently volunteer at the Toledo Zoo. I used to go to summer camp there every summer. Mostly we’re doing education like talking to the public about animals. And sometimes we do a little more hands-on stuff. I’ve gotten to do some animal handling like turtles and snakes. There was one day I was helping out the conservation department and we went out and did some turtle surveys. We checked marshes where they had set traps to count the number of turtles they had caught. And then we worked with some snakes, which was really fun. But one of the jobs that we have to do is be a Galapagos tortoise named Emerson. He’s over 100 years old and we have to watch his enclosure because the way it’s set up, someone from the public could theoretically get in and that would be bad for both the public and the tortoises.”
