In the spirit of the upcoming winter break, the last week of school is filled with a festive test. At Community High School, it’s tradition for the CHS Staff to participate in a song quiz over the intercom. The song quiz prefaces the various music genres of the decades, and on the third day of this week-long tradition, the decade was the 2010’s and featured “Cheap Thrills” by Sia.
Marci Harris, French teacher, was the caller that won. When the competition took place, Harris was busy teaching and at first and did not pay it any mind.
“The class was watching a very somber video about La Vel’ d’Hiv, which is the round up during the Holocaust in Paris and it was a somber moment,” Harris said. “Then the announcement came on. I paused the video and I kind of freaked out for a minute.”
Harris’ students frantically explained the competition and everyone started shouting out answers.
The entire class had a role in the victory, however, Harris wouldn’t have been able to do it without two of her students: Anya Knoepp (left) and Oliver Thomas (right). The three worked as a team to break down the mystery.
“Oliver Thomas said the name of the song but the wrong artist, and then Anya came up with the name of the artist,” Harris said. “So I called, we won and it was an amazing feeling, super exciting.”
The prize for this song was a holiday themed scratch-off lottery ticket with a possible prize of $10,000.
“If I win, I’m going to share it with Oliver and Anya because the three of us came up with the song together,” Harris said.
