The Rainbow Zebra staff volleyball team placed second in the Rec and Ed championships in their second year of competition. After winning their semifinal the team moved on to play against the Red Hot Teamatoes in the final. CHS students showed up to cheer on their teachers with posters and chants.
“I decided to come to this game because I wanted to support my teachers and hang out with my friends,” Anya Akhoury said.
The staff members dove for balls, slammed shoulder blades against the floor and high fived their teammates and colleagues throughout the two consecutive hours of playtime. Coach, Marcy McCormick, was especially proud of the team’s work this season.
“I think everyone had their moments,” McCormick said. “I think Sean played a wicked awesome game. He had some amazing digs and hits. But I think everyone is an MVP. Everyone had a moment where they just shined.”
The Red Hot Teamatoes ultimately came out on top and beat the CHS staff during the third round. One of the players of the Red Hot Teamatoes, Tyrone Coleman, loved how his team communicated throughout the season.
“My favorite moment from today’s game was how we all came together,” Coleman said. “When it looked like we weren’t going to win, we came together and kept pushing, and we got the win.”
