On Nov. 29, Community Ensemble Theatre held its second Mass Meeting of the year for the upcoming winter musical, “Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812.”
Henry Lipp, a member of the Sets crew, is excited to participate in a musical again. He joined CET in his junior year for Cabaret, which he admits has been his favorite production so far. One crucial aspect of Cabaret was the live band, which will also be a component of “Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812”.
“That’s going to be an interesting thing, because it sounds like the band is going to be closer to where the actors are going to be. So that’s going to be something interesting to coordinate.”
The show is known for its unconventional storytelling, from its unique origin (adapted from an excerpt of War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy) to its nontraditional stage setup. Lipp is looking forward to seeing where the audience will be placed in relation to the actors and sets.
“Honestly, CET is always surprising, from what I’ve seen in some of their older pictures, with where they placed the crowds. I’m really interested in seeing where they place these next ones, so I’m ready to be surprised.”
Cast hopefuls will have the chance to audition for a role on Dec. 11 and 12, at 3:45 p.m. in the Craft Theater, with callbacks a few days later on Dec. 14. The crew form is due Dec. 9. “Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812” is set to run for two weekends in early March.
