Seva, a word derived from the ancient Sanskrit word that means to serve selflessly, provides the basis for Seva Farms’ mission.
For Mohinder Singh, a second year Seva and Community Supported Agriculture farmer, it is equally important to both feed the community and maintain a profitable business.
“It’s really about feeding people,” Singh said. “Food is the foundation of our life. And so when we can feed people, we have deep satisfaction in that.”
Singh and his team have placed emphasis on biodynamic farming methods—sans excessive machinery. In order to counterpoise the pest pressure, Singh uses all biological sprays with bacteria and fungus.
“Our prices are a little bit higher than some of the other booths, but the quality and the flavor and the vibrancy of everything is so much better,” Singh said. “We pray and chant around the food which brings a higher vibration of the Divine into the produce. Most of everything is done by hand. I think all of it together creates something unparalleled to a commercial farmer.”
