Creativity took over the CHS halls as students and staff walked into school on Oct. 24 carrying anything but their backpacks. The second day of CHS’s Spirt Week, Anything But a Backpack Day, encouraged students to bring in their typical school supplies but to put them in something other than their everyday backpacks. Everything from dresser drawers to baskets to coolers were brought in. Jupiter Gergics, junior, brought an emptied-out tent bag filled with their school supplies. Although it wasn’t their original plan, Gergics tent bag ended up being the more practical option — given they had to carry it around all day.
“I was walking around my house and I was trying to find something that wasn’t a backpack but that I could still comfortably use to carry my things without being really annoying to carry around,” Gergics said.
Sam Grand, freshman, had a similar approach when deciding what he wanted to use as his makeshift backpack. After weighing his options, Grand ended up coming to school with his things in a Halloween basket — which is fitting because Halloween is only a week away.
“I was gonna bring a toy car, but then I hadn’t used it in like 10 years and it was way too dirty,” Grand said. “So then I just brought this basket instead.”
Tomorrow’s theme is one that was inspired by the Barbie movie. Remember to dress in your “Barbie vs Ken Day” outfits!
