After five years of moving from classroom to classroom each day, Becky Brent has finally settled down in room 211 giving her the opportunity to decorate her own space.
Brent included ideas from her Forum and her two classes: health and speech and communication, to inspire what goes up on her walls.
“I’ve been collecting stuff my entire teaching career,” Brent said. “But a lot that’s on the walls was student-created. Those are all a celebration of experiences we’ve had together.”
Brent believes that what adorns the walls of a classroom are an educational opportunity. She has begun to organize her room intentionally with decorations that add to her students’ educational experience. For example, Brent added a plant that she says highlights the values of life, growth and evolution.
“I’m a firm believer that environment can really take away or add to the learning experience,” Brent said.
While Brent has already made significant progress, she’s not done yet. Ultimately, Brent wants the space to reflect the idea that her room is a positive community where everyone has the opportunity to learn.
