Released at the stroke of midnight on Jan. 29, Nicki Minaj’s “Big Foot” takes aim at the Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion in response to an apparent diss on her recently released single “Hiss”.
Following the release Minaj spent days taking shots at Megan in a barrage of social media posts on X and a furry of Instagram live streams. Eventually announcing the single hours before the release in a post to X.
With considerable anticipation fueled by Minaj’s social media presence, expectations for this track were high. The song however, turned out to be a lackluster disappointment.
The lyrics offered nothing new that hadn’t already been tweeted or said by Nicki, and the overall vibe mirrored her previous tweets on X, coming across as completely unhinged and crazy. However, not in a strange, alluring, or admirable way, but rather in a disconcerting manner, leaving one to question how someone as talented and prestigious as Minaj could release this.
Certain parts of the song had me questioning Nicki’s state of mind during recording, from the absence of her usual playfulness and animation to the unexpected whispery ASMR session at the song’s end.
This may be one of those rare instances where someone might come up on top of a musical beef by only saying one line and not responding. Not even saying a name.
If anything this song only proves that Nicki needs to get back up on her good foot because this just wasn’t it.
