At 8:50 a.m. this morning, the lottery for the CHS class of 2028 began. Lasting roughly an hour and a half (the quickest in recent memory!), the lottery is an integral part of the school: admission is simply up to chance.
“We feel strongly that every student and family know about the opportunity [CHS offers]” said Dean Marci Tuninsky.
Counselors Brian Williams and Kelly Maveal sequentially drew business cards from their respective bins. His holds the names of all applicants while hers holds numbers one through 297. Then, Dean Marci Tuzinsky staples the respective numbers and names together and drops them into a third bin.
Numbers one through 132 are immediately admitted to the school, while number 133 becomes the first member of the waitlist.
For privacy, applicants have been given temporary identification numbers, which they received on Feb. 15. Results will be posted at 7:30 p.m. on the CHS website.
