communicatorchs As SATs approach, juniors begin preparing with the help of counselors and seniors’ tips and tricks.
Counselor Brian Williams’ top tip is not to panic. He stresses the importance of knowing your value beyond the SAT and realizing that your score does not define you.
“Remember that you’re much more than the test.” Williams said.
There are a plethora of study methods to choose from.
Counselor Kelly Maveal says that the base of preparation is mindfulness.
‘I think it starts with recognizing when your thoughts are starting to head out of control,” Maveal said. “And realizing when you’re getting to this place of catastrophizing how you’re going to do on the test.!
Charlie Rosenfeld, a senior at CHS, suggests using Khan Academy to prepare.
“I thought it was great,” Rosenfeld said. ” really liked the interface and the way it displayed the skills.”
Rosenfeld also gave the tip of thinking of the SAT as somewhat of a game.
“Really it’s just a game,” Rosenfeld said. “It’s testing your ability to take the SATs, so don’t get too worked up about it”
Juniors Kamen Panayotov and Lydia Straszewski both plan to utilize Khan Academy to prepare, hoping to maximize success.
Overall, it’s important to recognize your goals for the SATs and do your best to reach them. As juniors continue preparation for the SAT, Williams and Maveal recommend finding the study strategy best fit for you and working to refine it, tailoring it to your needs.
