Located on E. University Ave. directly under the Six11 Apartments, you can find Misfit Society Coffee Club. The coffee lounge is an Ann Arbor extension of the Grand Rapids-based Social Misfits, a restaurant founded by Spencer Raymond. Opened last year on March 24, 2023, Misfits is a coffee spin-off concept, dedicated to misfits everywhere.

When it comes to coffee drinkers, there are often two types: Ones that don’t stray too far from the classics and adventurous types who love to try every creative latte and flavor in the book.

Misfits has something for everyone, offering wacky flavor combinations and sugar-filled drinks in addition to traditional coffees. Raymond told the The Michigan Daily last year that they “want to find people that relate to being a misfit in one way or another.”

Neon lights, decorative paintings, and graffiti art line the interior of the shop with an island in the middle where baristas make drinks. The layout makes the shop feel more inviting and homey.

Staff Journalist Jonathan Carter tried the Banana Foster and Sugar Daddy lattes. The Banana Foster’s taste wasn’t as pronounced as expected for a banana-flavored drink.

On the other hand, The Sugar Daddy met its advertised level of sweetness and was not too overpowering but not underwhelming either.

Whether you’re into traditional drinks or sugary sweet coffees, Misfits is a great choice I would recommend visiting to fill your coffee fix. While offering a unique and special environment to enjoy.
