“It’s ok I’m ok” was released on Sept. 12, 2024, by Tate McRae. The star’s new single has already taken off. Since her popular lead single “greedy,” with 66 million views on YouTube, released from her second album, “Think Later”, she’s become quite popular.
Her new song surrounds a new persona, which she calls “Tatiana,” but still delivers the same infectious energy that all her songs embody. In “greedy,” McRae expresses a hockey aesthetic with the music video taking place in an ice rink and a locker room. McRae is dressed in hockey pads and is pictured riding the zamboni. “It’s ok I’m ok” takes place on the street with police cars, and she’s dressed in different outfits, showing more street clothes. She wears an “I love me” t-shirt and a ripped denim skirt in one of the outfits. Her music video doesn’t follow so much of the storyline that the song is about, but it mostly highlights her impressive dance moves and outfits. Unlike “greedy” which was more geared towards the story and lyrics, this one is more flashy and eye-catching.
“It’s ok I’m ok” is about McRae’s ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, and how she’s trying to warn her that he’s not as great as he may seem. In the first verse, McRae tries to tell the new girl that she hasn’t seen the guy’s bad side just yet, but that it’s there. This is seen in the lyrics,“You’re movin’ like I did. Before I found out. He ain’t just a pretty-faced talker. Good with his money, close to his mother. You’re seeing one-sided. You got him right now.”
Later in the song, she assures the girl that she’s felt the same way and been in the same spot she’s in currently. Her breakup was so bad, according to the song, that she’s over all the romance and love stuff. “Was such a romantic. You got me like, “f*** that.”
The name and main lyric for the song, “It’s ok I’m ok” is expressing that she’s so over the situation that it’s not with it to try that hard to break up the new relationship. He’s got “It’s ok, I’m ok, had him in the first place.” She then dismisses this and continues, “You can have him anyway.”
All in all, it’s unclear if this song is actually about McRae’s recent breakup, but it’s still relatable and has become popular since its release. “It’s ok I’m ok” did not disappoint and added to Tate McRae’s playlist; that’s both catchy and powerful for young women.
