When the leaves turn a different hue, and the sun sets earlier. The freshness of cider and pumpkins fills the air, as the day the kids will jump off the wall for candy nears. Halloween is a very fun time of year, but, It can be hard to find activities in Ann Arbor. Here are some ideas that will put the right foot forward heading into the season.
Wiard’s Orchard – Wiards is a humongous property with all types of attractions. Including a haunted house, a haunted hayride, a petting zoo, Cider mill and much more. My personal experience at Wiards has been beyond positive. The haunted house is perfectly in between being too scary and being fun, and the cider donuts taste like you imagine they would;divine. It’s a great place to go with friends and family to have an action-packed night for a low price on budget.
Greenfield Village Hallowe’en Nights – Greenfield Village is a historical masterpiece, with buildings and artifacts from so many different people with one of the highlights being Thomas Edison’s lab. But during Halloween, they completely redecorate the place, making it into a giant scarefilled town, full of candy. They have so many different attractions, from scarecrows that jump out at you to a reenactment of the headless horseman. It is on the more expensive side, but if you can fit it into your busy schedule, it is for sure worth it!
Nichols Arboretum, Matthaei Botanical Gardens – The Botanical Gardens and the Arb (Nichols Arboretum), is a walk through nature with beautiful views. Especially when the leaves start to turn their deep orange color, you get caught up in the scenery. It’s a great outlet from the outside world and gives you a mental reset.
Wells Pumpkin Patch – Wells Pumpkin Patch is a huge farm that, in addition to the thousands of pumpkins, has a hayride, fresh cider, so many different animals, cow feeding and so much more. The atmosphere is beautiful, with the surrounding area being full of pumpkins. In terms of pumpkin patches, it’s a family favorite.
Blast Corn Maze – Blast corn maze is an advanced labyrinth that gives even the smartest people challenge. They also have many other attractions, like a motorized cow ride, Go-karts and much more. As far as a corn maze goes, I think that this one would give the most bang for your buck.
Turkey Trot – Ann Arbor happens to have one of the largest Turkey Trot runs with a 1k for the young-ins, or a 5k for the more experienced runners. It can be a super competitive run for those who want it to be, or a fun run for those who want it to be! Either way, it’s burning the calories so that you can have that much more for Thanksgiving dinner.
Football Game – Football season is upon us, and Ann Arbor is the place to be. With the local University of Michigan Wolverines right around the corner, to the local high school teams such as Pioneer and Skyline, and even to the NFL fan favorite, the Lions, there is football for everyone. Football season puts everyone here in a good mood, and even if you can’t make it to a game, going to a tailgate is still a blast!
Belleville Fall Festival – Every year in Belleville, the DeBuck family fall festival is a staple of the local area. With tons of different photo opportunities, beautiful decorations, good food and beverage and the perfect fall atmosphere. Some of the highlights for a more daring person include Pedal Cars, Rat Races, Giant Slide, King of The Mountain and more. But it is the perfect family-oriented event with more than 20 different games and events!
The local Ann Arbor area is lucky enough to have so many fun activities for so many ages, so make sure to take advantage of them! Fall only comes around once a year so have fun, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and even more beautiful moments.
