As of Nov. 6, 2024, Donald Trump is once again victorious in a presidential election. The first sign of the win was when Trump gained 277 electoral votes early Wednesday (11/6) morning, while Kamala Harris remained at 226; a candidate needs 270 to win.
Once again, a presidential term for a woman will not happen.
This has received kickback throughout America, especially on social media. Many people have voiced their concerns about Americans choosing a convicted felon over a woman.
In two months, President Joe Biden will be replaced in office by President Trump, but what happens next? Who is immediately affected?
Immigrants will almost certainly be the first group of people to experience Trump’s policies.
“The invasion at our southern border, we will stop it and we will stop it quickly,” Trump said at his convention speech in July 2024.
President Trump has spoken heavily on the actions he will take regarding immigration. His first action will be to set in motion “the largest deportation program in American history.” This involves deporting over 11 million undocumented immigrants currently residing in the U.S. He also plans to seal the southern border, increasing security and taking any means to stop illegal immigration, even in cases of seeking asylum. This will reestablish Title 42, created by the Trump administration during his first term, which turns away any illegal migrants, in all cases.
Another important topic Trump has talked about policies on is abortion. Project 2025 voiced a national abortion ban, however, Trump has denied this and said he would leave the decision of a ban up to each state. His claim of vetoing a national abortion ban is controversial, partly due to his gloating of his impact on overturning Roe v. Wade in June of 2022.
Trump has outlined a plan to cut funding for reusable energy, instead putting it towards roads and bridges. This puts climate change and the environment at risk. Replacing this clean reusable energy with fossil fuels would undo President Biden’s “Green New Deal” which funded clean energy manufacturing, finding new ways to use energy that have a lower impact on our environment. According to NPR, Tanya Das, an innovative energy expert, said that “Without that kind of government investment in innovation, the United States would struggle to make deep cuts in climate pollution or to compete with China and other nations that are racing to dominate emerging technologies.” (npr.org)
Opinions on the economy also highlighted a huge difference between the candidates. Vice President Harris expressed an “Opportunity Economy” which would place higher taxes on wealthier Americans, and uplift the middle class. Trump will employ an economy that will rely heavily on tax cuts for things like Social Security and tips. He also plans to lower gas prices.
These are some of the main proposals and plans that boosted Trump’s campaign. From immigration to climate change, America will see many changes come into play.
