On February 15, the WSG Gallery in downtown Ann Arbor opened a new exhibit: Faces. The exhibit features self-portraits done by artists in all of the ways that they have interpreted self. However, what makes this exhibit unique are the fifteen Community High School students included in the show (see list below).

Each piece was chosen by CHS teacher and respected artist/photographer, Steve Coron. Coron teaches both art and photography classes, and selected work done by his own students. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our [CHS] artists to exhibit in the community at large and especially with local artists such as those at the Washington Street Gallery,” said Coron.

CHS junior Lexi Carlson couldn’t be more excited to be featured in the show. “I’ve been in one other show in the Neutral Zone,” said Carlson, “but this is my first gallery and it’s more professional.” Carlson has a pencil drawing featured in the exhibit, explaining, “I did a close-up portrait of a baby. I really do like this piece; I’ll be putting it in my portfolio for college. I’m proud of it.”

Coron is also proud of all of his students’ work, saying, “We are honored and excited to show at WSG.” More Ann Arbor students will be featured in exhibits downtown throughout March, including the art students of another CHS teacher Elena Flores, as a part of Youth Arts Month.
