After winning states for a second time in a row, the Community High Mock Trial “A” team attended the National High School Mock Trial tournament in Phoenix, Arizona. From the time they first read the case to the time they boarded the plane, the team only had six short weeks to prepare to compete against the best teams in the nation. The competition was spread over two days, and the team had a total of four trials. The team came in 18th overall out of a total of 48 teams: 43 US state teams, Guam, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, South Korea and Australia. Many teams were from private schools and preparatory academies, making Community High one of the few public schools in the tournament.
At the end of each trial, the teams would vote on who they thought was the best witness and attorney on the opposite team. Cooper DePriest, Michelle Grifka, Shadi Ahmadmehrabi, and Michael Savage each won an individual award for best witness, and Elise Wander won best attorney in all four trials.
