The American singer-songwriter and 4-time Grammy Album of the Year winner, Taylor Swift, has just announced that all of her music belongs to her.
Anyone who has been following along on this journey through music with Swift, and frankly even if they haven’t been, the inspiring story that started in 2019 is probably ingrained in their brains.
CEO of HYBE America (a record label company), Scooter Braun, bought the master rights to every recording in Swift’s first six albums in the year 2019, without consent from Swift herself. Braun used to make fun of Swift on the internet, making allies with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who have a complicated background with Swift as well.
To combat Braun making income on her albums and not herself, Swift began her journey of re-recording all of the albums that were taken away from her. Fans began to stream these albums instead. She called these “Taylor’s Versions.”
With the outstandingly popular Eras Tour and the fanbase that Swift already had, she had gained mass support for the re-recording process. Her plan had worked. Spotify and other music streaming platforms started pushing the “Taylor’s Version” albums to the top of the search results, instead of the original versions.
Included in the re-recorded albums, Swift would release “From the Vault” tracks — songs that were recorded with the original album, but were not released.
On May 30, 2025 at approximately 11:50am, a letter appeared on Swift’s official website. The letter stated that even after the releasing of four re-recorded albums, the master rights to every single song in her discography now belong to Swift herself. In one sentence, she announced: “All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”

This completely changes everything for Swift’s fans, who were given the nickname “Swifties.” The fans have been longing for the release of “reputation, taylor’s version” since November of 2023. Swift dropped many potential easter eggs as to when she was going to announce the album release.
Within this surprising statement of a letter, Swift mentioned three numbers in number form instead of word form the entire time. These numbers were 6, 4 and 2. Some fan accounts on the internet like @swiftiesforeternity on Instagram and others are exclaiming that the “math is mathing,” and that these numbers add up to 12.
The next album Swift releases will be her 12th album, making Swifties now constantly on their toes, looking out for an album announcement. Fans recognize the potential for the announcement to come in April of 2026, as the numbers could be re-ordered as 4/26. Swifties also noted that in the word “this” in Swift’s letter, she wrote eleven extra “I”s, making that a total of twelve.
Fans are still discussing what’s going to happen in the wake of this news. Will Swift complete and release “reputation, Taylor’s Version,” even though it hasn’t been re-recorded yet, and the long-awaited “Taylor Swift, Taylor’s Version”? All of these questions remain with no answer.
