With colorful custom forum shirts, eyeblack and temporary tattoos, hundreds of CHS students loaded onto buses headed for Delhi Park. The day ahead of them would be filled with excitement, competition and Forum pride.
The annual Spring Field Day at Community High School marks the graduating class of 2026’s last day of school. Even though it can be bittersweet, it is also an exciting day for many.
Kicking off the day’s events was the well-anticipated tug-of-war tournament. Students worked within their forums as teams to compete with other forums. The Silvester forum ended up on top after a final match against the returning winners: the Kiley forum.
“It was super fun to cheer everyone on and see people do super well,” Freshman Alani Tharp said. “It was my first field day, and it was a really good experience. It definitely lived up to my expectations.”
After the tug-of-war tournament, students gathered for the annual relay race. Each forum selected six students to compete in a race with four heats, with the winner of each round advancing to a final round. The Silvester forum again came out victorious, securing wins in both tug-of-war and the relay.
As the forum-based competitions came to a close, students participated in an optional mile run before eating a school-provided lunch from Jimmy John’s.
In the past, the lunch had been brought individually by the forums, but this year, students ate food provided by the school.
After lunch, students played volleyball, hung out in the park and participated in a game of Capture the Flag: a CHS field day tradition. The game was split into an underclassmen team versus an upperclassmen team, and it ended when the upperclassmen finally managed to get the flag over the sidewalk that made up the border between the two teams.
Students crossing the sidewalk marked the end of an eventful day. It was a first for freshmen and a final goodbye for the seniors. Students crowded into buses heading back to CHS, feelings ranging from contentment to sadness hung in the air.
