To celebrate the Seniors’ last week of school and the countdown to forum field day, students dressed up throughout the school day to participate in CHS’ Spirit Week. Bright colors and costume pieces filled the hallways as seniors, staff and students brought school spirit into their classes.
During the week of May 18, students and teachers dressed up for the final spirit week of the 2025-2026 school year. On Monday, you could find people wearing bathing suits over their clothes, flip flops and sunglasses for beach day. On Tuesday, each grade dressed up as a different generation, with the freshmen going as Gen Alpha, sophomores as Gen Z, Juniors as Millennials and seniors as Boomers. Wednesday was meme day, where CHS dressed as their favorite memes and Thursday was anything but a backpack day. To finish up on Friday, students wore their forum T-shirts for field day
In order to create CHS’ first-ever spring spirit week, Forum Council pitched ideas for what each day of the week could be. Afterward a final draft of the schedule was sent to the deans in order to ensure each theme would be appropriate. Ryan Silvester, history teacher and mentor of FoCo, aimed for each theme to be accessible to students.
“Figuring out what themes are going to be best participated in helps get people excited about doing them,” Silvester said. “We try to get responses and ideas from forums, and then come together as a forum council and make determinations based on what is going to work for the majority of people.”
Spirit week has been a tradition in CHS since before Silvester was on staff, and the tradition has evolved each year. Spirit week takes place during the week leading up to CHS’s annual Halloween Dance, students take on themes such as “Forum Costume Day” or “Halloween Costume Day”. Spring spirit week, however, leans into spring and summer themes, with the addition of themes such as “beach day”.
“[Spirit week] was really fun,” freshman Edin Colson said. “I like having one in the fall and one in the spring. It keeps the energy going.”
Colson was grateful that spirit week gave them the opportunity to wear items they usually wouldn’t wear in a school environment.
Their favorite theme was Monday’s beach day. “I always feel like I’m gonna get judged for wearing sandals, and someone’s gonna yell at me that my dogs are out, so it was a fun excuse to wear them,” Colson said.
With spirit week paving the way into the end of the school year, it provides students to look back at the memories of the past year. For many students, spirit week will come again next fall, but for seniors, this past spirit week concluded their high school journey.
