Half way through the season the Detroit Pistons are 7 games below .500. And on top of that their big free agent sign of the summer forward Josh Smith has been playing terrible and not been getting along with head coach Mo Cheeks. Also their new point guard Brandon Jennings has been playing terrible. But it seems their biggest problem has been that the team doesn’t seem to have meshed the way management has hoped.

This year has been a huge disappointment for the Pistons. Coming into the season they had big expectations. They thought they would be an above .500 team, make the playoffs as a 3 or 4 seed and make a run. So far none of this has happened. It makes he most sense for the Pistons to trade forward Josh Smith. It is a good solution because Jennings’ and him keep shooting the Pistons out of games. They need to scrap this experiment. There have been rumors around the league saying that Smith will get traded to the Orlando Magic or the New Orleans Pelicans’. If the Pistons wanted to keep Smith they could trade Greg Monroe. Monroe becomes a restricted free at the end of this season. But I think that it is un-likely that they will trade Monroe. I predict that the pistons will make a big trade within the next few weeks.

If the Pistons want to be successful this year they will need new point guard Brandon Jennings to step up. They will need him to stop taking so many shots or he will need to start making more shots. One thing that could help him is if Smith found his stroke from beyond the arc and Monroe became more consistent in the low-post. This would make Jennings not feel like he had to make every shot or take every shot. This would also open up the outside for Jennings. Then that would open up the lanes for him to drive. Another thing he needs to improve is his defense. This especially crucial because the central division has 2 of the best point guards in the league, in Derrick Rose and Kyrie Irving. But the thing he needs to work on most is his passing. Because once he starts passing the ball everybody becomes a threat and he (Jennings) becomes a bigger threat. So if the pistons want to take the next step Jennings will need to step up.

The Pistons have enough talent on their team to be one of the top teams in the league it is just a matter of how the players play. They need to acquire one or two more pieces to be an elite team, and Jennings needs to step up. But if I were an NBA coach I would be scared of the Pistons.
