These cookies are easy to make and are a satisfying, spicy winter snack.
Ingredients:
3/4 cups shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cups molasses
1 egg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions:
Melt shortening in a sauce pan over low heat. Let cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well. Sift flour, baking soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt. Add to shortening mixture and mix. Chill until firm. Roll dough into balls. Cover in sugar and place on greased cookie sheet. Press with a glass–if there is sugar on the glass it won’t stick. Bake at 375 degrees for eight to ten minutes. These cookies are gooey when they come out of the oven and firm as they cool.
