It’s about midway through the Spencer Vs. season and I’m starting to get used to the sting of losing. My self-esteem is down and I’m starting to question my athletic ability after a zero and three start, similar to the New Jersey Nets. I’ve decided to revamp my image a little so as not to lose fans after a horrific start. For instance my new slogan is, “Who dat said dey gonna beat Spencer, WHO DAT?” Also, I decided to go aquatic for my next challenge.

When it comes to the water, Tressa Stapleton is like a fish. Swimming against her would be one of the most daunting tasks I had yet to face. Tressa swims for the newly erected Skyline High School and her best event is the 500 freestyle. The combination of her stamina in the water and my ineptitude when it comes to swimming was bound to make it a fun afternoon.

At 2:45, Tressa and I, along with my camera crew, piled into a car and drove to the YMCA. To let you in on a little secret, when I was two years old, I was a swimming prodigy. I took classes and the teacher said I had a real gift for the art. I was hoping that two-year-old Spencer would be resurrected once I hit the water.

In the locker room I gave myself a pre-game speech that even Tim Tebow would have been proud of. I suited up, put on my goggles, and walked into the pool area. Tressa and I got into lanes right next to each other. After a quick warm-up lap, which I had trouble finishing, we got ready to kick off the showdown. Tressa and I wished each other good luck and got ready to start. We would be swimming a 50-meter race, which is two lengths of the pool. Kyle Aaronson on the opposite bank gave the signal and we were off.

After the first few meters I could feel a stitch in my side. After 12 meters I felt like my lungs were going to explode. As I finished the first 25 meters, I peeked around to see where Tressa was. She was already finished with the race and was laughing at me. I couldn’t quite understand how I could have been lapped in a 50-meter race. I finished the race in one minute and three seconds. Tressa finished the race in 31 seconds, which is very good considering that we did not dive to start off the race.

In conclusion, Tressa Stapleton is like a freight train. Her speed and technique literally blew me out of the water. So to answer my own slogan, “Who dat?” Tressa Stapleton dat.
