“A lot of communities in Europe have healthier societies than [in America]. There’s more social mobility for more groups of people. In the Netherlands, I witnessed better ways that things can be. Even with capitalism, the playing field is more level. There are a lot of Turkish people in the Netherlands and I have also been to Turkey. I was nervous when [Dutch people] were voting for their version of Trump βan Islamaphobic hate monger. The difference between here and there is he didn’t get the seat because their checks and balances work, while ours seem not to. In the Netherlands, things were better for all of the friends that I met, regardless of their nationality. So, I just want to be there.”
Roxie is a senior at Community High and this is her third year on Communicator staff. When not at school, you can find Roxie hunched over her laptop at a coffee shop working on one of many passion projects, at a political meeting, event or rally, or taking a much-needed nap in her super comfy bed. She enjoys watching stand-up comedy, the news, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Veep, and Dance Moms β an eclectic mix that perfectly captures her essence. Roxie is so grateful to have one more year on Communicator and looks forward to working with the incredible staff to create meaningful work!
