For the week of April 19, Forum Council plans to set up “Green Week” where people dress up as and bring salads on various days of the week. This leads into our school-wide volunteer day Wednesday, April 28.
The week is planned as follows:
Mon. Apr 19 Meatless Monday
Tues. Apr 20 Salad Day
Wed. Apr 21 Dress up like a vegetable or fruit
Thu. Apr 22 Earth Day;
Fri. Apr 23 Farm Fresh Friday
Wed. Apr 28 Volunteer Day
The atmosphere of Forum Council is relaxed with just a touch of seriousness. Lead by Gabe Appelkraut and Jacob Garber, the first fifteen to twenty minutes is spent joking and brainstorming impossible ideas while others are sent out to find the stragglers who have forgotten about the little meeting. The council is composed of two members of each forum, so if one is sick or gone the other can fill in. This doesn’t usually happen. Sometimes you’ll get both members of some forums and none of others.
On this such occasion Gabe and Jacob spotted Kevin eating a salad in the back of the room and started joking it masked his masculinity. It escalated until most of the hour was spent planning an “Earth Spirit Week” to celebrate the earth, greenery, and volunteering.
On Monday Forum Council encourages all students to go “meatless” and try to save a few cows. Tuesday is Salad Day. A poster contest will be held to celebrate the message of Earth Day, and there will also be a Salad Eating Contest and a Salad Making Contest during forum. The judges are to be determined. Wednesday, the council encourages everyone to dress up as a fruit or vegetable, and Thursday is Earth Day, for which a special celebration will be held out on the lawn. Forum Council also encourages people to walk, carpool, or take a bus to school that day to lower CO2 emissions. They also will use the money gained from the salad contests to plant a tree.
The Volunteer day is Wednesday, April 28, and the council encourages every forum to get out and volunteer for the whole morning instead of going to school. The council has a list of parks for every forum to pick to clean up. The next meeting is March 25, during forum.
