GVMMY’s Picks: Diaspora Problems by Soul Glo
Nothing can prepare for the bombardment of content that “Diaspora Problems” has in store for the listener. Soul Glo successfully mixes elements of hardcore punk, screamo, and industrial hip-hop as lead vocalist Pierce Jordan gun fires a whirlwind of lyrical content, going from political to emotionally vulnerable, that speeds and slurs with the ever-driving instrumentals. From themes of hype-beast culture, generational trauma, hypocrisy, allyship, constant paranoia, and a barrage of other social and personal baggage, the band compliments this with their noisy presentation, while still balancing this act by providing tempo switch-ups and song structure to keep the listener on their feet.
