GVMMY’s Picks: Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers
Bridgers’ reputation as an indie folk talent is undeniably marked by her persona as an artist. With that said, “Punisher” feels like the project that cements all of these claims about her music. It’s subtle, acoustic touches with Bridgers’ soft-spoken approach that almost sounds like slam poetry. The heaviness of the record, however, doesn’t necessarily come in its sound; the emotional trip “Punisher” takes the listener on is nothing less than heart-wrenching. Bridgers’ uses this approach to, cleverly, end the project in a climactic release of all the unspoken intensity building up in the air with the cinematic “I Know The End.”
