GVMMY’s Picks: Souvlaki by Slowdive
An album that, in many ways, is the ethos of shoegaze as a genre and culture, “Souvlaki” is true to itself with swirls of gorgeous acoustic guitar, that all mixes into this dream-like atmosphere that’s enough to make the listener visualize lush, green fields of flowers that shows its vibrancy in every way. Songs like “Alison“ and “Souvlaki Space Station” feel engulfed in echoed beauty, as its vocals are added less than a force and more as a harmonic piece. The appeal lies more heavily on the mood the music evokes from its sonic soundscape, rather than something more on the nose.
